Who is Lola?
(she/her)
Windy City Conjure (hereafter referred to as ‘WCC’) is the creative brainchild of Lola Ray. Born and raised in Chicago, she has been working with her craft for over twenty years, and is best known for her resiliency and her ability to build anything out of the bare minimum. Where there was a severe lack of metaphysical supplies specific to various ATR practices, Lola sought to address that need by making and sourcing her own products.
With blood ties to the Mississippi Delta and other regions of the Deep South, her expertise lies mainly in hoodoo/rootwork and many concurrent aspects of Louisiana Voodoo. Her dream for WCC is to build a community where the stigma surrounding hoodoo and voodoo are torn down and replaced by education, understanding, and curiosity.
In addition to her work in the occult, Lola is also an accomplished photographer (all the photos on this site were taken by her!) and graduate student of clinical psychology. She is known to apply therapeutic concepts to her cartomancy readings that result in better self-regulation, more informed decision-making, and favorable rapport building with her clients.
Mission Statement
WCC is built on three principles:
Education (mindfulness, self-efficacy, and spiritual counseling)
Sustainability (buying/selling used artifacts, repurposing, and responsible foraging)
Community engagement (workshops, library, communal gathering space)
Lola hopes for Windy City Conjure to become a wellspring of inspiration for all who seek it!
